A brief note on cleaning overhead tanks

Overhead water tanks are used extensively to fulfill the water needs of an urban home. The water stored in these overhead tanks offer unlimited water supply for drinking and other day-to-day domestic usage. Hence it is important to ensure that the water stored in the tank is clean and free of any contaminants and sediments that can accumulate over time. These impurities encourage the growth of bacteria and algae, which will take a toll on the health of your family. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when cleaning your overhead tanks-
·         Make sure to clean your water tank at regular intervals. This depends heavily on the kind of water that is being supplied to your home and on the local conditions. Once every 6- 12 months is considered a good frequency to clean your tanks.
·         Make sure that the area surrounding the tank and the top of the tanks is cleaned as well. This will ensure that there are no chances of residue dirt and grime from infecting the water.
·         Manual scrubbing is the best way to remove sediment, dirt and stains. Using a sludge pump to drain out this sludge is recommended as it does a better job compared to manual removal.
·         Vacuum cleaning will also help eliminate any residual dirt and grime. This process followed by  disinfecting with a good anti-bacterial is also recommended.
·         Once the tank is drained out of all chemicals, you should fill it up completely, let the water sit for a little while and drain it out before using it for domestic use.
